Lake of The Woods
What a vacation we’ve had this week! Lake of The Woods, Ontario; a place I’ve been before and always loved. Leaving my car behind in Winnipeg, I drove with Justin’s mom in her car to the family cabin on the lake! Just off the mainland, their family cabin is on their own island. With no electricity or running water, it’s far from luxorious, but all one needs to enjoy some time away from reality. Justin has always said that the lake is his happy place and I can sure see why. Away from any worries or fears, the lake has a serene atmosphere about it. Charlie has been able to run amuck on the island and he really enjoys it! There’s so much to do here; fishing, kayaking, paddle boarding, water tubing, swimming, exploring other islands, boating, sitting in the sun, reading, playing guitar on the far deck, star-gazing, cooking, puzzling, playing cards, sitting around a fire, roasting marshmallows, and enjoying company of family wherever you go and whatever you’re doing. It has become my happy place too. Last year I learned how to fish here and this year we went again! We caught a lot more fish this year than last. We caught enough to have a huge fish dinner. Being the food fanatic that I am, I cooked it up for everyone! We arrived here on Sunday and Justin came in on Thursday morning, but left today. He was only here for a few days, but it was wonderful to see him and spend a couple days with him. His little cousin adores him and loves to play with him. It’s amusing to watch them play and enjoy their time together. Charlie is exhausted at the end of every day as he swims and runs around all day long. There are two other dogs here so he has a lot of company to enjoy. When I go on the paddle board, kayak, or peddleboat he swims alongside me. He always tries to climb in with me and it’s amusing to watch him try. I love that dog so much already, he has become my little baby boy. Tomorrow we’ll be off back to Winnipeg where we’ll spend a couple days reorganzing and getting ready to drive further East!
